Social Media Optimization – Part II

Are you putting to use your best social media optimization practices?

In Part I we covered aspects 1 – 5. Read Part I. In this post we will cover the remaining 4 key aspects to your SMO success.

6. Create Content

I’m sure you’re thinking ‘duh, Monyelle’, I did too. Yet, it is necessary. It amazes me how many people are out there not creating content and dumbfounded they are not getting traffic or sales. You do not have to re-create the wheel, but you have to be active on social media in order to see results. As I mentioned earlier, write a blog post then link it to a page on your site that correlates to the content and a service you offer.

7. Be Real

How do you explain this one? Does it need an explanation? People see through fake persona’s. Your potential audience will not become your supportive community if you are not authentic in what you do. Do not pretend to be interested in a niche you do not like and do not market to an audience you do not want to actually work with. This is your business. You do have a say who you work closely with.

8. Develop a Strategy

I regularly advocate every business develops a marketing strategy that includes social media. Clear goals and objectives are vital to the success of your strategy. Social media is no different. Think about what quantifiable objectives you want to achieve with social media and add it to your strategy. Set start dates and deadlines. Make sure it is clear each employee’s role in the strategy before you begin to implement.

9. Make SMO Part of Your Process

Most of us are familiar of the importance of good SEO. We may not know how to do the best SEO tactics, but we are aware it needs to be done. The same principle applies to SMO.  Again, make it clear each role that is a part of the strategy and how each activity can encourage SMO.

Although the social media is constantly changing, it remains consistent that it is influential and your participation can help you achieve business and marketing goals. A successful campaign is not just about the platform used to market, but the idea and strategy behind it.

  1. Hi Monyelle,

another thing a lot of people underestimate: Creating content on a regular basis. If we want to create a loyal readership, we have to add content on a regular basis. How many people expect huge amounts of traffic after posting one article once in a while ? It doesn't work and so they give up disappointed.

Being real and authentic is highly important because people look through that, I abslutely agree.

    Thanks for sharing your advice.

    Take care

  2. Monyelle

Seems like a covered a decent amount of info here Monyelle. I practice most of these methods that you have here for the most part. I agree that people just need to be themselves first of all. Shouldn't be all that hard to do. And being active on your blog as well as interacting on Social media is a great way of getting traffic; I experienced this first hand. Thanks for sharing this.

    • Hi Steven,

You would think being yourself wouldn't be difficult, but so many do not think people "want" to hear/see the wizard behind the curtain. We start our businesses with a "well, who am I" though process and second guess ourselves constantly.

If I can help one person realize that the should show their character in their business, then mission accomplished!

      Thank you for the comment!
      Take care,
      Monyelle
